Read Randa Abdel-Fattah's Resignation Letter Slamming UQP for Caving to 'Smear Campaigns'

The author's award-winning novel Discipline was published by UQP. Now, Abdel-Fattah has quit the publisher in response to its cancellation of an Indigenous children's book.

On Wednesday, Lamestream broke the news that the University of Queensland had cancelled a children's book written by Wiradjuri author Jazz Money after determining the book's illustrator, Matt Chun, had breached their anti-Semitism policy.

In response, another University of Queensland Press (UQP) author, Evelyn Araluen, announced she was leaving the publisher. You can read her resignation letter here.

The book’s author has described the decision to pulp all 5,000 copies of the book as reckless and disrespectful, and says it “sets a chilling standard”.

Now Randa Abdel-Fattah, the author of the award-winning book Discipline, published by UQP, has also announced she is leaving the publisher. Below is her resignation letter, published in full:


I am shocked by UQP's shameful and cowardly decision to capitulate to, and thereby legitimise, yet another Murdoch-driven smear campaign by cancelling Bila, by Jazz Money, illustrated by Matt Chun.
