Considering the amount of press that the Israel lobby is able to generate on its every demand and whim, there was very little coverage this week of a statement from the Australia-Israel Jewish Affairs Council.
The powerful pro-Israel lobby group is demanding a say in how ABC journalists cover the Middle East.
“AIJAC are calling for the ABC to commission an independent review,” reported The Australian Jewish News this week.
“But there is little to suggest that, drunk on its own smug moral superiority, it will do any such thing.
“It must be forced to do so.”
The review AIJAC wants would only be ‘independent’, in that it would be independent of anyone at the ABC. That means it would be free from any journalistic concept of accuracy or balance, and free to rewrite the rules for the ABC’s journalism in line with AIJAC’s pro-Israel agenda.
