Dozens of ABC staff have been informed their positions have been made redundant, with digital journalists in the arts team as well as at Radio National having their roles cut in a new restructure aimed at reinvesting resources into TV production, a move that undoes the broadcaster's last restructure, which only took place in 2023.
Managing director Hugh Marks confirmed in an email to staff that TV and metropolitan audio would be beneficiaries of cuts, saying the restructure would lead to 40 redundancies and the ending of 10 contract roles early.
"These changes will create savings to be reinvested directly into more content and services for audiences," he said in an all-staff email on Wednesday afternoon.
Lamestream is working to verify Marks' figures for the number of jobs cut, but as reported yesterday on Lamestream a new restructure is taking shape, with staff told they are free to apply for voluntary redundancy or otherwise face being put into redundancy pools during one-on-one meetings this morning.
