It's difficult to imagine a more significant story in our lifetimes that the ongoing invasion and slaughter in Gaza, at the hands of the Israeli government. It's also a story that the Australian media, with very few exceptions, has covered terribly.
The media's deference to Israeli government talking points and their unwillingness to accurately describe the atrocities taking place in Gaza was on full display this week, after news broke of the planned "conquest" of Gaza and potential expulsion of Palestinians.
This week on the Lamestream podcast we discussed how and why the Australian media continues to struggle to report the war accurately, even compared to other mainstream outlets all over the world.
And in this week's edition of newsletter, Scott dives a bit deeper into the coverage to explain why it's wrong, and how it lets down audiences.

"No spin by Adam Bandt can change the reality that he, and other Green members, lost their seats because of their appalling treatment of the Jewish community. — Peter Dutton, X.com
Dutton emerged from his dignified silence (that lasted an entire four days) to analyse Adam Bandt's defeat in Melbourne. Really all it did was serve to remind the public of Dutton's own historic loss in his own seat, and of the fact his primary vote in his seat of Dickson was significantly smaller than Bandt's in Melbourne.
"A faction demonstrably devoid of creativity and capacity." — Former Labor PM Paul Keating, on the Victorian Right faction led by Richard Marles
Keating issued a scorching statement ripping into Labor party factions for dumping prominent Muslim MP Ed Husic and Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus from the cabinet. You have to give Albanese credit for turning a record Labor win into a factional shit fight in less than a week.
"Maybe what he needs is a mirror and a reflection on why he's no longer in parliament … it's a bit rich for him, of all people" — Anthony Albanese on the ABC's 7:30 program describing Max Chandler-Mather.
Anyone else think it's a bit weird the Labor party seem way more excited about beating the Greens than Peter Dutton?
