Summary

The Australian newspaper published an interview with a former staff member alleging the ABC was bias against Israel. He once volunteered for right-wing lobby group Advance Australia during a by-election — while working at the public broadcaster.

Last weekend, as Gaza’s starvation crisis dominated most front pages, The Weekend Australian instead featured a story under the headline: “Jewish editor’s take on ABC bias”.

The Australian’s article included allegations the ABC had been biased against Israel since October 2023, citing the network airing interviews with Nasser Mashni from the Australia Palestine Advocacy Network and the Jewish Council of Australia’s Sarah Schwartz as evidence.

The exclusive, by chief international correspondent and recently departed member of the Walkley Foundation judging board, Cameron Stewart, was based on an interview with Elahn Zetlin, who left the ABC in May this year.

Lamestream can reveal that Zetlin, the source for this News Corp “exclusive”, volunteered for a far-right lobby group that wants to defund the ABC.
