Why was former Sky News host Erin Molan Granted 'Exclusive' Access to Gaza?

Erin Molan made world headlines with her "exclusive" tour of tunnels beneath Gaza, but her relationship with the pro-settler movement raise questions about the conditions of her access and whether the media should republish her content.

This week, to coincide with the anniversary of October 7, Australian broadcaster Erin Molan got world exclusive access to what she described as “terrorist tunnels” beneath Gaza, courtesy of the Israeli military.

Molan, for those not familiar, has had a bizarre public trajectory. She has gone from Channel Nine rugby league sideline reporter, to 2Day FM breakfast radio host, to gossip magazine cover girl, to Sky News Australia commentator, to Elon Musk-backed online influencer and now, finally, to pro-Israel influencer.

Erin Molan promotes her story on x.com.

According to Molan, the tunnel she visited was discovered eight months ago, but only now were Israeli authorities granting her (rather than, say, a seasoned correspondent) access to the site.

The ‘exclusive’ has been shared by right-wing media all over the world, boosting Molan’s profile significantly. Here in Australia, News Corp described Molan as an “Australian journalist”. Last week, Donald Trump shared her commentary on the Iran war, calling her a “great journalist”.

Molan’s drift towards becoming a pro-Israel propagandist accelerated after her show on Sky News Australia was axed, following poor ratings, and she was let go. She claimed it was because she was ‘too supportive of Israel’, and was silenced.
