The Sydney Morning Herald published an extraordinary front-page story on Friday, and it raised the eyebrows of a number of the paper’s journalists because of how many words were devoted to one voice: Antisemitism Envoy Jillian Segal.
In fact, the entire piece (which was touted as an exclusive, but more on that later) was premised on Segal’s latest musing that progressive critics of Israel were behind the “most pervasive” form of anti-Semitism in Australia.
That claim is a key argument in Segal’s latest 40-page report, which appears timed to pre-empt the findings and recommendations of the Royal Commission, and put pressure on the government to further crack down on universities, arts bodies and other institutions perceived to be hostile to Israel.
